In 2011 Detroit has been identified as having one of the worst stray dog problems in the United States. With Detroit being hit hard with the economic downfall, as people and families, leave their houses and possessions, they also leave their dogs, to fend for themselves. If the dogs are not neutered, then that just adds to the numbers as time goes on. Detroit has over 50,000 stray dogs roaming its streets struggling to survive. These dogs are living in abandon homes, living on the streets and invading businesses, looking for shelter and food. They are forced to go to extremes in order to survive. There is a bright spot… a 1.5 Million donation was recently made to build a No Kill Rescue facility in Detroit to help these dogs.
